History, our story
Enabling the next step. That is the common thread in the history of Batenburg Techniek. Founder Piet Batenburg was always inspired by technology and its opportunities for his clients. Batenburg Techniek currently develops technological applications for clients in this same spirit. Progress used to be the driving force, still is today and will remain so in the future.

The first steps
Piet Batenburg Techniek was an electrical pioneer who made electric light possible for Rotterdam entrepreneurs in the early 1900s. On 29 September 1919, Batenburg is officially registered with the Chamber of Commerce in Rotterdam. He continued to grow the company in the 1920s by integrating technological advances into its operations. Opportunities he sees for other entrepreneurs inspire and motivate him. The first expansion marks the future of the company. Batenburg Techniek entered a market that was innovative for the early 1930s: radio and telegraphy: ‘The manufacture, construction, repair and trade of telegraphic products and installations and everything connected therewith in the least sense of the word’ (deed of 1931).
After the war
In the years after the war, the company worked hard to rebuild Rotterdam. In the city centre, Batenburg Techniek repaired the power supply in homes, shops and offices. Batenburg Techniek did this in the imposing Groot Handelsgebouw, one of the symbols of the resurgent Rotterdam.
In the post-war years, scarcity of electrical engineering materials was a problem for everyone. Batenburg Techniek manages to find a good partner. Thanks to the successful cooperation, clients can once again take steps forward.
In 1956, Batenburg Techniek was listed on the Amsterdam stock exchange (currently Euronext).
70s & 80s
By combining specialisation with innovative technologies, the company continued to grow. For example, Batenburg Techniek designed operating systems for industrial clients.
The company developed into a group that thinks one step ahead all the time. Specialists who translate technical knowledge into practical applications.
Our focus
Batenburg Techniek grew further by combining technical knowledge from various sectors with commercial skills and industrial automation.
New chapter
The stock market listing of Batenburg Techniek came to an end in 2019. Our majority shareholder VP Capital, of the Van Puijenbroek family, sold the remaining shares. This led to the start of a new era for Batenburg Techniek. VP Capital’s entrepreneurial history started more than 150 years ago in the textile industry. Today, the company still has a strong market position in the sector, including in the production of durable workwear under the name HaVeP.
With a team of seven professionals, the Dutch company VP Capital manages the family’s investments in areas such as real estate, agriculture and energy transition. The Van Puijenbroek family has a long tradition of investing, in which return is more than just a financial ratio. VP Capital invests mainly in sustainable progress, whereby a positive impact on people and planet is paramount.
In April 2021, the shareholdership of Batenburg Techniek was broadened. VP Capital, the Van Puijenbroek family, transferred part of its shares to De Hoge Dennen Capital of the De Rijcke entrepreneurial family. VP Capital retains the majority of the shares. Together, the families support the long-term vision of Batenburg Techniek.
In close cooperation with clients, the possibilities are explored, applications developed as well as realised. The result: smooth-running production processes and high-quality end products for clients.
